Mark C. Fava
Mark C. Fava is the creator of the Shipshape Shipmates children’s books, a series of authentic and whimsical naval adventures designed to teach children timeless values such as teamwork, courage, gratitude, preparation, integrity, kindness, and service.
A retired U.S. Navy Captain and former Naval Flight Officer, Mark spent more than 30 years in the Navy, including flying in the P-3 Orion aircraft and commanding three Navy units. Throughout his military and professional careers, he learned the importance of leadership, character, teamwork, and helping others.
Mark is a career aviation lawyer who has practiced law for more than thirty years. He has served as a law firm partner and the chief operations attorney at Delta Air Lines on 9/11. He currently serves as a vice president at one of the world’s largest aerospace companies.
Mark is also the author of the best-selling book Lessons from the Admiral: Naval Wisdom and Sea Stories for Leaders, which received the Book Excellence Award in Leadership. In it, he shares leadership lessons drawn from military service, aviation law, and executive leadership.
Through the Shipshape Shipmates books, Mark hopes to spark children’s imaginations while introducing young readers to positive role models and the enduring values that help shape future leaders.
A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Mark lives in the Lowcountry with his wife and three daughters. When he is not writing, speaking, or working on new adventures for the Shipshape crew, he enjoys reading, a cold glass of sweet tea in the summer, and a good oyster roast in the fall.
